Behind The Scenes

Where Materials Become Skills

Our Story

We found that many design courses focused on the end-product, leaving students in the dark about how materials perform. MaterHandWork was designed to shift that paradigm. Instead of emulating end-products, students gain insight into the reasons behind methods, how materials interact with tools and how to make informed design choices.

Our classes are designed to foster curiosity, persistence and technical fluency. By building students from the ground up, we empower them with confidence that can last a lifetime, long after a project is complete.

Our Philosophy of Education

We think it is important to learn the materiality in the basis for the creation. In every class, not only how to make, but why it can be made is taught. Students in MaterHandWork try and error, see and think, and repeat it. As the error is considered to be one of the learnings, the error is corrected naturally and their problem solving ability is cultivated.

Who are our courses for?

Our courses are intended for people who are new to the world of handmade work and need a method and approach, but do not wish to work with a fixed pattern. Previous professional experience is not necessary.

Our Commitment

We are committed to providing clear instruction, practical knowledge, and an environment that supports creative independence.
